Debating DJ Akademiks' Claim That Kendrick Lamar Is Lazy
Mackwop reacts to a viral clip of DJ Akademiks asserting that Kendrick Lamar avoids consistent work by relying on guest verses and public moments.
Mackwop pulls up a viral clip featuring DJ Akademiks passionately arguing that Kendrick Lamar is lazy. In the clip at 15:44, Akademiks states that Kendrick Lamar disappears for years, avoids consistently doing the work of releasing regular albums, and only surfaces to create moments around other artists or major cultural events.
Mackwop expresses disbelief at Akademiks' framing, noting that Akademiks' definition of putting in work seems tied strictly to volume rather than quality. Mackwop points out at 19:08 that in 2024 alone, Kendrick Lamar participated in a high-profile lyrical battle, performed major live shows, and achieved massive commercial and critical reach. Mackwop questions why an artist who is actively breaking records and preparing new material would be labeled inactive.
Mackwop highlights the difference between artists who choose a methodical release schedule and media personalities who demand constant content. At 22:47, Mackwop emphasizes that Kendrick Lamar has maintained multiple catalog albums on the Billboard 200 chart for over a decade, proving that sustained interest in music does not require flooding the market with low-impact material.
